Post Credit Crisis Travel Cards

In the aftermath of the credit crisis 2 new travel rewards cards with great features have popped up. It was very surprising to find that instead of stripping away benefits due to new credit card laws, they actually added some! One is Escape by Discover® Card the other is the Chase Sapphire^SM card.

New Travel Protections

The 5th hotel reward program under examination is Priority Club, which includes the standard hotels like Holiday Inn and more exclusive brands like Crowne Plaza and Intercontinental. This was a really tough program to review because there is not a standard point redemption and the hotels are not given categories like every other hotel program I have looked at. The #4 hotel reward program under examination is Starwood Preferred Guest, which includes the Westin and Sheraton brands as well as several other exclusive properties. The point requirement for a free night with Starwood is less than the point requirement of the Marriott and Hilton hotels.

Save on a Maui Vacation

The third hotel reward program under examination is Marriott who has actually come out with a new reward structure closely resembling what Hilton is offering. There is one big difference though. As of January 15, 2009 you will get a free 5th night for every 4 reward nights redeemed from a Marriott hotel!

The second hotel reward program under examination is Hilton HHonors. No, that’s not a typo. The Hhonors program is spelled with the letter H twice. Aside from the grammatical issues, their bonus structure and VIP program is outstanding and I will show you a way to earn a minimum of 20 points per dollar spent and a 15% point bonus at any of the Hilton brand hotels!
