Save Your Money, Save Yourself!
Get $100 for Saving Money
Suze Orman has partnered with TD Ameritrade to encourage you to save money. Open a “Save Yourself Account” and make 12 monthly deposits of at least $100. Then TD Ameritrade will reward you with 100 bucks.
Get 8% Interest
If you deposit $1200 over the course of a year and get $100 from TD Ameritrade you are making 8% interest. That beats the heck out of the 1.5% that online savings accounts are paying right now and just about every other investment out there.
Get a Free E-Book
You will also get free online access to Suze’s Women and Money book which contains loads of sound financial advice. Don’t be put off by the title if you are a man either!
The online book covers just about every personal finance topic that I can think of. Credit cards, bank accounts, life insurance, mortgages, pre-nutuals… the list goes on. Suze might be a little corny at times, but she knows what she is talking about.
Start Your Action Plan
This is one of my favorite parts of the Save Yourself Program. Simply fill out an online questionnaire and Suze will create a personalized plan that “prioritizes the financial moves you need to take.”
I consider myself very well educated when it comes to financial matters and the action plan found a few areas that I could do better in.
My first recommendation was to get a term life insurance policy. I had accidental death insurance at my old job, but my new employer didn’t offer anything so I let this go by the wayside.
It was also suggested that I set up a will, a living revocable trust, and durable power of attorney for health care. No one really wants to think about this stuff until they are old and grey, but it’s important.
Any extra money that I have should be put in a Roth IRA which allows money to grow and be withdrawn tax free upon retirement. It’s better than a traditional IRA in most cases.
Free Financial Tools
The Save Yourself Program and the Women and Money book have some really great tools, calculators, and incentives (It’s free) to help you put some extra money in your pocket. There’s no gimmicks. I have an account and am almost at 12 months so I should be getting the free $100 soon. I think it would be well worth your time to check it out!
